Augusta Canal in Augusta - Bike Trail: The 12-mile, out-and-back forest road starts at the pumping station by the railroad tracks. There are two well marked loops, a red (about 4 miles) and white (about 3 miles). If you stick to the canal, the ride can be a leisurely Saturday afternoon stroll with the family, an intense endurance-building workout or a shortcut to historic downtown Augusta. Directions: From Augusta, head north on Riverwatch Parkway towards Martinez. Turn right onto Steven's Creek Road. Go approximately 3 miles and turn right onto Evans to Locks Road. The road ends in the parking lot of the Savannah Rapids Pavilion. Ride your bike around the gate at the bottom of the parking lot and head left towards the bridge to cross the canal.

All of these more challenging things were completely optional. There are loops upon loops so you can add in or take out just about any section of the trail.
