Georgia's State Railroad Museum, was built and operated by the Central of Georgia Railway from 1838 to 1963. It has the oldest and most complete railroad repair shops in the U.S.
Roundhouse Railroad Museum in Savannah GAThe Roundhouse Railroad Museum is a National Historic Landmark site whose recorded history begins with a Revolutionary War Battle and includes over 100 years of the Central of Georgia Railway’s operations.

Originally designed to transport valuable Georgia cotton, the 190 miles of rail line between Savannah and Macon completed by 1843 formed the longest continuous railroad under one management in the world.

The significance of the Central of Georgia is that it had all the requisite facilities for transportation of goods, maintenance of motive power, and passenger services for the expanding region. This site remains a brilliant tribute to the 19th century Industrial Revolution.
